Economy Goes Buggy for Reading

Economy Goes Buggy for Reading

GreatIdeasGrant, Home
First grade teacher, Carrie Malinich, implemented a uniquely entomological reading tool to help teach her students to read. Each student created a "Buggy Reading Wallet" to keep track of their book bucks, books, reading level card, login card, reward tickets and book club card. BCET Great Idea Mini-Grant funds were used to purchase the books for the supplies and books used in the book club library. Hopewell – Exploration Station @ the Library

Hopewell – Exploration Station @ the Library

GreatIdeasGrant, Home
Mini-grant funds were used to create a student exploration station and resource center in the Hopewell High School library. Students now have centralized access to supplemental learning materials from the following categories: technology, learning games, and the arts. Students visit the Exploration Station during their study halls and lunch periods. While the materials are housed in portable storage containers that can be checked out for in-classroom use, most use occurs in-library by independent learners. Of the items purchased, students use the Sphero robots and Snap Circuits most often. Students who had never previously visited the library for its traditional resources are now frequent Exploration Station patrons.

The word "aeroponic" is derived from the Greek meanings of aer (ἀήρ, "air") and ponos (πόνος, "labour"). Aeroponic culture differs from both conventional hydroponics, aquaponics, and in-vitro (plant tissue culture) growing. Unlike hydroponics, which uses a liquid nutrient solution as a growing medium and essential minerals to sustain plant growth; or aquaponics which uses water and fish waste, aeroponics is conducted without a growing medium. It is sometimes considered a type of…

Central Valley Winter Carnival

Central Valley Winter Carnival

GreatIdeasGrant, Home
The Central Valley Middle School Community Service Club and Student Council co- sponsored a Winter Carnival Lock-In on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 3-6 pm in the Middle School gym. Using money from a BCET grant, students created carnival games from purchased materials such as plywood, paint, nails, boards, etc. Some images of the games (such as Plinko, Ping-Pong Toss, Balloon Darts, etc.) with student workers are shown below. Students worked during and after school to create the carnival games. Attendees were able to play the games, and, if successful, receive a prize for their efforts. Concessions were sold, and music was played throughout the Lock-In. All proceeds from the Lock-In went directly to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. A total of $1,720 was donated to Make-A-Wish.
